ALBASINE “CHALUCUANE” LANGA
Painter Albasine “Chalucuane” Langa (b.1978) began his artistic career in 1997. His connection to the LMF began in 2006, when he started preparing for his second solo exhibition. With a grant from the LMF and sponsorship from several organizations, Langa held an exhibition of “Lifestyle” paintings at the Mozambican Association of Photography. The support provided by the LMF encouraged the painter to continue his artistic activity. In the words of Langa himself: “this support not only symbolizes the opening of new doors but also the opening up of opportunities that can deepen between a Foundation and a young artist”.
Langa has been able to disseminate his works of art, contribute to the promotion of Mozambican culture and help realize the dreams of many children with a taste for painting. The grant, in addition to the exhibition, has been used for the artist to undertake visual arts workshops with children in two community schools: the Beluluane Primary School and the Chamanculo Primary School.
During these workshops, Langa demonstrated his painting skills to a group of 25 students aged 6 to 12 years old. The artist taught the students how to translate their drawings and designs onto canvas, and how to mix paints so that a variety of colors could be achieved. He also explained to them the importance of drawing freely and expressing themselves on the canvas. Langa found the workshops to be very enriching, not just for the children, but for himself as well. He would like to carry out more social projects with the foundation in the future, as he believes art and culture can be vehicles of development.
