Mais Moçambique Pra Mim
Uma Cidade Limpa pra Mim works with communities, and youth in particular, to rehabilitate schools and cities, improving the education experience of youth in many communities according to each school’s and city’s specific needs. Youth participate in cleaning up the city, whether it’s painting, sweeping, or gathering trash, in tandem with each school’s renovation. Thus far, the program has renovated primary schools and pre-schools in 6 provinces—Maputo, Gaza, Sofala, Manica, Zambezia, and Cabo Delgado—marshaling secondary school students to help with clean up efforts of public spaces. Students clean roads, tend public gardens, and paint murals, among other activities.
The program’s second project, Mini-Basquete, sponsors large basketball tournaments for youth between the ages of 8 and 12 in Maputo and Beira. With partnerships with the Ferroviário Clubs of Maputo and Beira, and in collaboration with schools, neighborhood clubs, and associations, the project sets up sports camps, equipping them to be successful with balls and sports materials, as well as a training course for tournament and camp leaders.
